In a discussion about sex between children and adults being good or bad, legal or not legal, we received a letter of my good friend Annie Sprinkle that I would like to share with you all as it makes a lot of sence....
I think often the issues are not so much moral, as in good or bad, but
sociatal.
There actually are cultures where adults have sex with kids routinely and its
a non issue. Parts of New Guinnea for example. Remember that gay new yorker
Tobais Schneebaum who went and lived there and had sex with young boys and
wrote a wonderful book about it? It was so natural there. Boys drank older
men's sperm to make them mature and grow and become empowered (they
believed).
One of my teachers at school lived in a Mexican village where the adults
(or baby sitters) would masturbate the babies and children to help them get
to sleep. No one grew up @#%$ up over it. Because it was normal. --- But
the part of the story that really facinated me, was that in that same
mountainous poor village, the dogs were trained to lick people's butts clean
after they pooped. (There was no toilet paper.)
So you'd poop outside in the dirt, and dogs come lick you clean. and
everyone was happy. The dogs had their job, and then they got fed.
I just love that! No one grew up @#%$ up by it!
Theres an interesting documentary on HBO right now, about a father that gives
his kids Ecstasy,because he loves Ecstasy so much, he wants to share the ex
preince with his kids. Needless to say, he loosees custody. In other
cultures, if you DON"T give your kids the psychedelic brew, then you're a
lousy parent!
I used to honestly think that I wished that I had been innitiated into sex as
a kid by a caring adult, because I believed that sex was so wonderful.
However, after teaching so many women's sexuality workshops and meeting so
many women who had sex as kids, and seeing how @#%$ up they got over it,
I'm glad I wasn't. In this culture, it's NOT OK in most cases, and wreaks
major havock. It's a very difficult issue for sure, that needs lots of love,
compassion, attention and education. We've got a long ways to go on this
one.
